authorize withholds funds in bank account?

Hi,
I recently integrated payeezy and added authorization to the Confirm Order page to verify card data is ok, then when clicking Place Order button the actual purchase is made.

Here's the issue. The authorization resulted in the bank account withholding the funds, even though the purchase was not completed.

What's the best/right way to do this? Should I only authorize $1 to verify the card? Should I not do any authorization at the confirm point in the process? Maybe there's a way to rescind the authorization if customer doesn't place the order?
